Mind-Body Los Angeles is a project started by psychotherapist and Certified Integral Qigong and Tai Chi Teacher Lee Conger, who drew inspiration from operating "in the spirit of the gift" within the Time Bank community and from his study of Charles Eisenstein's book Sacred Economics: Money, Gift & Society in the Age of Transition.

Charles writes, "[A]nything we do to protect some natural or social resource from conversion into money will both hasten the collapse [of the current system] and mitigate its severity. Any forest you save from development, any road you stop, any cooperative playgroup you establish; anyone you teach to heal themselves, or to build their own house, cook their own food, or make their own clothes; any wealth you create or add to the public domain; anything you render off-limits to the world-devouring Machine will help shorten the Machine's life span."

The initial training Lee received via the Institute of Integral Qigong and Tai Chi was directed toward teaching people "to heal themselves" by moving them through simple, gentle, low-impact, meditative, energy-restoring exercises and techniques, while encouraging them to take up the practice regularly on their own. Within the Time Bank community are other practitioners, who also provide a wide array of complementary (or "alternative") health services as offers to other members (for "time dollars") and sometimes to the community at large via free, low-fee or donation-based classes or workshops. You will find them on the Mind-Body Los Angeles Calendar, along with offerings from other agencies, community centers, yoga and meditation centers, and individual providers.

ACCESS TO THE MIND-BODY LOS ANGELES CALENDAR

  • It's a Google calendar. There are two ways to access it:

    • For a searchable version (the most useful version), write mindbodylosangeles@gmail.com, so that I can "share" it with you. Otherwise ...

    • For a view-only version of the Mind-Body Los Angeles Calendar, click here.

    • Either way, I recommend the Schedule or Agenda format for a less cluttered presentation of the multiple offerings from about 90 organizational and individual providers (with more added frequently).

Organizational members and individual members of the Arroyo S.E.C.O. Network of Time Banks who offer complementary health sessions, classes, or workshops to the community at no cost or on a donation basis:
